Mariner’s Diary No. 2 by Edgard Vincens
More on the technical choices made in the construction of Edgard Vincens’ new boat
This month, I want to talk about the technical choices made in the construction of my new boat. As the sporting program is ambitious, I naturally chose to work with Marc Lombard, the most experienced architect in the Class40 category. He designed the boat in compliance with Class40 rules, and this one seems to be the fastest in the current fleet.
The V1D2 shipyard is building the boat to be safe and reliable. V1D2 is located in Caen and has been a leader in ocean sailboat construction for more than 30 years and particularly in Class40 boats.
In October we choose the suppliers to integrate into the construction schedule to meet the delivery date in late February – early March 2023. I spent a good part of the month visiting our suppliers, to specify my choices of fittings, electronics, communications, sails and other accessories. For example, I chose to work with the sail-maker INCIDENCE who are very experienced in manufacturing Class40 sails. For the mast I chose MARECHAL. The choice of builders is important because both are located near the Port of La Rochelle where my boat will be based, and will ensure personal after sales service.
An update on the progress of construction: the next few weeks will be devoted to the assembly of the composite parts of the boat. It’s exhilarating to think that this project and the boat itself are taking shape so quickly!
